BATTISTONE, Dr. Gino C.

Dr. GINO C. BATTISTONE (Age 90)

On Thursday, August 18, 2016, of Silver Spring, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD. He was a graduate of both Gonzaga College High School and Georgetown University, undergraduate, through his doctoral degree in biochemistry. In 1990, he retired as Deputy of Research and Chief, of the US Army Institute of Dental Research, Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Battistone was an army medic and a US Army World War II veteran. He was a professorial lecturer at George Washington University and Georgetown University School of Medicine and Dentistry. He was the author of over 100 papers in the area of Dental Biochemistry, Radionuclear Chemistry, Chemistry and Toxicology of trace metals and wound healing.

As a volunteer, he served as an Emeritus Foundation Scientist instructor for District of Columbia Public School students and guide for the Goddard Space Flight Center. At Georgetown University, he proved to be a talented thespian. He chose to serve as theater director and set designer for his parish Catholic Youth Organization, St. John Baptist De La Salle, Hyattsville, MD. The plays he directed won first place multiple times in the Catholic Archdiocese competitions. He later developed his set design building skills to become a master woodworker.

Gino Battistone was a devoted husband of the late Mary Ann De Francisci Battistone for 64 years; father of Marianne and Carol Battistone; father-in-law of Philip W. Norwood and Ronald Klayman. Remembrances will be shared at 1:30 p.m. with a Memorial Mass to follow at St. Patrick’s Church, 4101 Norbeck Rd. Rockville MD 20853, Saturday, September, 24, 2016. Private interment was August 19, 2016.

On Tuesday, August 9, 2016, of Rockville, MD. Beloved husband of the late Francisca Marco Recio; father of Carlos Marco Recio, Maria Recio Walczak and her husband, the late Lee Walczak, and Francisca Marco Recio and her husband, Paul Brooks Handy; grandfather of Alexa Anna Walczak, Alanna Francesca Walczak, Julian Quintero Recio, Nicolas Quintero Recio, Daniel Paul Handy-Recio and Marisa Juliette Handy-Recio. Dr. Recio was born in Elda, Alicante, Spain, on November 4, 1915. He served in the Spanish Civil War and graduated from the University of Valencia medical school. He married Francisca in 1945 and they moved to the United States in 1950, ultimately settling in Rockville. Dr. Recio was a staff psychiatrist at Prince George”s Hospital and later at St. Elizabeth”s Hospital. He also had a part-time private practice and worked at the Andromeda Clinic. QUENTIN R. REMEIN (Age 96)
Of Bethesda, MD, died peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on Monday, August 1, 2016. He was born in Rochester, NY and graduated from Calvin College in 1945. In World War II, he served as 2nd Lt, US Army in the South Pacific theatre. Then for 29 years he served with distinction for the US Public Health Service, eventually becoming the Associate Director for Programs of the National Center for Health Statistics. During his career, he worked to bring together preventive disease measures, medical research and health care for those with chronic diseases. His lifelong mission was to serve God through volunteer work in the Christian Reformed Church (CRC). He participated in the organization and leadership of the Washington DC and Silver Spring CRCs and the founding of Washington Christian Academy. He served on the World Missions Board for the CRC and represented World Renew as Executive Secretary of NVOAD, a coalition of major disaster relief organizations that work together to improve responses to national disasters. He had an interest in trains and was an HO train model enthusiast. Quentin was the beloved husband of the late Harriet A. Remein; father of Quentin (Mary) Remein II, Kay Remein and Teresa Remein; brother of the late John and Charles Remein; grandfather of Matthew Remein, Sarah (Shaun) Stiemsma, and John Remein; great-grandfather of Lucas, Elise, Clark, Blake and Viola Stiemsma. Relatives and friends may call at Silver Spring Christian Reformed Church, 1501 Arcola Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Friday, August 12, 2016, from 5:30 p.m. until time of the Funeral Service at 8 p.m. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
